EEA-Switzerland: obstacles with regard to the full implementation of the internal market

IMCO Committee will hold a public hearing with experts on obstacles with regard to the full implementation of the internal market in the context of EEA-Switzerland. The debates, which will also focus on the transposition of the internal market acquis in the EEA EFTA States and Switzerland, will feed into a non-legislative report that is being prepared by the Committee. The hearing will be held in Brussels on 07 May at 11.00

Presentation of the progress of the Commission Work programme by Commissioners Katainen, Bienkowska and Oettinger
On 6 May, IMCO will hold an exchange of views with J. Katainen, Vice-President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, and with E. Bieńkowska, Commissioner responsible for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. The purpose of the exchange of views is to discuss the progress of the Commission work programme and the upcoming initiatives. On 7 May, Commissioner for Digital Economy & Society G. Oettinger, will present the Commission strategy on Digital Single Market

Deployment of the eCall in-vehicle systems
The legislative report on Deployment of the eCall in-vehicle system will be discussed in Plenary on 27 April and voted on28 April. To help mitigate the consequences of serious road accidents, the EU has committed to putting in place an emergency call system. The eCall will dial 112 - the Europe's single emergency number and communicate the vehicle's location to emergency services, even if the driver is unconscious or unable to make a phone call. It could save up to 2500 lives a year.

Deployment of the eCall in-vehicle systems
The legislative report on Deployment of the eCall in-vehicle system was voted on 28 April in Plenary. Travellers putting together their own package holidays online will get the same protection as those buying from traditional travel agents under a provisional deal struck by MEPs and Council negotiators on Tuesday. The deal also strengthens holidaymakers’ rights, by enabling them to cancel a package deal contract if its price rises by more than 8%, get help if they encounter difficulties or get transport home if a tour operator goes bust.

Single Market Governance and European Semester
Following the Commission's 2012 Communication on Better Governance for the Single Market, IMCO prepared a legislative own-initiative report on Governance of the Single Market (Rapporteur: Andreas Schwab (EPP)) which was adopted in plenary on 7 February 2013, putting forward recommendations on how the Single Market could be further improved and asking that a Single Market pillar be put in place within the European Semester for economic policy coordination.
