Following the consideration of the Council position at first reading on the proposal in subject of 12 October 2015, the IMCO Committee adopted by 29 votes in favour and 2 against the draft recommendation for second reading, proposing to approve the Council position at first reading without amendments. The position of the Council at first reading reflects the agreement reached in informal trialogues and corresponds to the text endorsed in IMCO on 4 June 2015.
Torecall, the new Directive aims at ensuring that package holidays, consisting ofa flight, hotel or car hire, put together online by travellers will get the same protection as the ones prepared by traditional travelagents. Before concluding a contract, holidaymakers will have to be informed ifthey are buying a package and who will be responsible if something goes wrong.Travellers also get a right to cancel a package if its price rises by more than8%, and if "unavoidable" and"unforeseen" events such as natural disasters or terrorist attacksmake it impossible for travellers to return home on time, the organiser wouldhave to pay for a stay of three nights.
