Highlights - IMCO-ITRE joint committee meeting on the Digital Single Market Act - Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection

This meeting was dedicated to the consideration of the 1287 amendments tabled. Co-rapporteurs welcomed the amendments tabled and Co-rapporteurs highlighted their efforts to find possible lines of agreement and good compromises on key issues, in spite of their different views/political positions. The majority of interventions stressed the importance of the DSM strategy and the holistic approach among Committees and political groups needed in order to ensure a comprehensive response of the EP.

Theco-rapporteurs expressed their will to have a fruitful/constructive processthat allows reaching compromises on the major topics.

Membersemphasised the need to ensure a constructive approach taking into account thetechnical difficulties with 8 committees involved. Among the key topicsidentified are to ensuring consumer rights in the digital sphere, achieving adigital transformation of the industry in the EU, advancing in themodernization of the e-administration/e-government, ensuring fair competitionand commercial practices in online platforms, creating a good businessenvironment for SMEs, ensuring net neutrality, better access for citizens,consumers and businesses to digital goods and services, tackling geo-blocking,and making more investments in digital infrastructures in order to maximise thegrowth potential of the digital economy, or encouraging and allowing innovation.
