On 20 April, IMCO and INTA Committees held a joint public hearing to discuss public procurement challenges and opportunities in TTIP negotiations. The hearing was organised ahead of the visit of the US President Obama in Europe and the 13th TTIP negotiation round. The hearing was opened by IMCO Chair Vicky Ford who emphasised the importance of the issue for IMCO since it is responsible for consumer protection, standardisation and public procurement.
Afterwards, INTA Chair Bernd Lange highlighted a crucial role of publicprocurement in TTIP, stressed the interest of European companies in theUS public procurement and mentioned existing legal obstacles.
