ITRE, IMCO, JURI, LIBE and STOA will send a delegation to the 12th annual meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) “Shape Your Digital Future!” on 19-21 December in Geneva, focusing on IGF's participatory mechanisms and a forward-looking approach to the Internet governance discussion. The joint delegation will contribute to formulating an EU approach on Internet governance together with the Member States and the Commission.
The EP sent a delegation to every IGF annual meeting since the 2005 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), playing a pivotal role in the promotion of European values and the interaction with CSO and national parliaments.
IGF is the outcome of the WSIS, which engages stakeholders as equals in the dialogue and makes recommendations to the international community. The UN General Assembly extended the IGF mandate until 2025. The EP resolution of 11.2.2015, recalls that the EU should support IGF as a positive context to shape internet's future.
