in order to identify remaining gaps and possible actions for Parliament's new term.
Prof. Dr. Schulte-Noelke and Dr. Wiewiórowska-Domagalska (University of Osnabrück) presented the study "Legal Aspects of Protecting European Consumers". The study analyses the progress done in adopting consumer protection legislation during the 7th and 8th legislative period of the European Parliament (2009 - 2019). It examines policy developments in the area of consumer protection and (digital) single market, and identifies new substantive rights offered to EU consumers. The presentation in particular focused on new market trends, such as the importance of online platforms, the fading of the relevance of the distinction between consumers and traders, the emergence of AI, ad personalisation, and the integration of environmental concerns into consumer policy.
