The EU legislation on product safety is key to protect consumers and to create the conditions for a level playing field among companies. Compliance to EU safety rules must be ensured, regardless of whether products are placed on the market via offline or online means and regardless of whether they are manufactured in the Union or not. In view of the revision of the General Product Safety Directive and other sectoral legislative acts, the report will analyse the new challenges to product safety
, such as the digital transformation, in particular AI, IoT and Robotics, the effectiveness of market surveillance and the transparency and reliability of information on products.
In her draft report, Ms. Marion Walsmann (EPP) underlines that greater efforts are needed to improve the safety of products and ensure a high level of consumer protection. The amendments to the draft Report will be considered on 29 June.
