During the extraordinary committee meeting on 8 March, IMCO Members adopted the recommendation for the second reading of the Parliament on the proposal for establishing the Customs programme for cooperation in the field of customs (Rapporteur Maria GRAPINI (S&D)) as the successor to the previous Customs 2020 Programme. The main objective of the new Programme is to fund actions aimed at strengthening the Customs Union.
The Council adopted their first reading position on the Customs programme on 1 March, which reflects the outcome of the interinstitutional negotiations as endorsed in IMCO on 11 January. The draft recommendation for the second reading position of the Parliament recommends to approve the Council position, thereby closing the negotiations and allowing to move to the final adoption of the regulation in Plenary already this week. The recommendation was adopted by 43 votes in favour, 0 against and 1 abstention.
