Consumers win the day as MEPs vote to abolish roaming charges by 2017 and to strengthen rights against data traffic discrimination on the net.
On 12 July, IMCO Members will also vote on the adoption of the draft opinion of Ms Róża Thun und Hohenstein (EPP) on ITRE's legislative report on the proposal for a Regulation on Roaming on public mobile communications networks within the Union (recast).

The Rapporteur welcomes the Commission proposal, which aims to prolong the current rules until 2032, and to introduce a higher level of consumer protection on transparency and quality of services. She proposed compromise amendments mainly on the quality of service while roaming, adequate information for customers on the means of access to emergency services and introducing the possibility of the European Commission to amend this regulation by a legislative proposal instead of a delegated act.
