On 27 September, IMCO will consider amendments tabled to the legislative proposal known as the Digital Markets Act (DMA) for which Mr Andreas Schwab (EPP) is the Rapporteur. 1072 amendments were tabled. Many of the amendments reinforce Rapporteur’s proposals included, in particular the aim to ensure that the scope should be fair and balanced, while at the same time focused on restoring contestability and competition in the digital market.
Several amendments focus on issues such as designation of gatekeepers and its flexibility to react to new ones, new obligations and prohibitions for gatekeepers, the interoperability of services, and the role of competent national authorities, governance and enforcement. Some put forward proposals, such as to create a European High-Level Group of Digital Regulators and to clarify the role of competent national authorities in monitoring compliance with the new rules and cooperation between the Commission and Member States. All the amendments tabled in IMCO, together with those that will be submitted by all opinion-giving committees, will be carefully considered by the involved Members in the coming weeks in order to prepare for the vote in committee.
