On the 22 January 2019, IMCO hosted a Public Hearing on “Harmonisation as a principle for Single Market legislation - A key to EU competitiveness”. The hearing consisted of two panels, aiming at assessing the effects and added value that harmonisation principle has on the shaping of Single Market as well as the perspective it could have in the future. First panel focused on business and consumers’ perspective on the actual benefits the harmonisation of national rules across EU brings and the
second panel had a discussion on the future development of harmonised standards, taking into account Commission's Communication of 22 November 2018, and the ways to further strengthen the Single Market as the best asset to generate growth and foster competitiveness of European companies in the globalised markets, meeting the challenges of technological developments, emerging economic trends and new growth models.
